2/3/05 Wednesday -
The Underground was having some problems, so I jumped on a bus that seemed to be heading the right way and it took me to Lancaster Gate. I wandered around for a fair while, apparently avoiding anything that might have been interesting. I had walked so far, my left foot start getting very painful in a blister like way.
I was trying to find a book store, so I could get a Lonely Planet book or something. I should of bought one before I came. On the scout out for a book store once again, I came across one called books a videos... it seemed kind of strange, not much advertising, a thick wooden door... I walked in to be greeted with walls of porno films and books. So I picked up a few and left... just kidding. They didn't seem to stock lonely planet books though.
Strangely I much later bumped into the same book store I had been in the other day, "Borders". I think it must be the only major book store in London! ;) I got the "Europe on a Shoestring" Lonely Planet book. It is rather brief, but gives you insights into countries and has some maps.
Managed to get a spot up the front for the last Slint gig I was going to see. The first band was strange, I think they are called "Bad Wizard". Some rock stuff where the lead singer progressively stripped and seemed to like putting beer bottles and the microphone down his pants. He also sprayed one section of the crowd with beer, which I'm sure they appreciated. Very rock. The strange bit was that I could hardly here anything but the lead guitar, it overpowered everything. I don't think I heard one word in a song. Drums, bass and the other guitar were all very weak. Anyway, the lead singer was definitely very rock, too much for me anyway. At least it was more amusing than that boring band of the night before.
Slint came on and straight away didn't sound as good as on either of the previous nights. The bass sounded strange and after a few songs I headed back to see if it sounded better further back. Nope. I kept moving around, and since I couldn't get upstairs, finally decided that it was a lost cause. Ahh well, 2 outta three aint bad.
