Switzerland And Queenly Montreux (Interlaken, Bern, Lausanne, Montreux)

14/3/05 Monday

Breakfast was even more sparse at the Funny Farm. You get a slice of bread and 2 types of jam to choose from. You can also make some tea.... but I didn't see any sugar.

Checked out Bern. Bern has poor bears caged up in the city. The rest of Bern was okay.

Now who's idea was it to put the Lausanne railway line at the bottom of a massive hill. Argghh. It is a really nice town though. There are these funky wooden bridges over the river and some nice buildings. The cathedral here is pretty awesome, the lead lighting a highlight.

Lobbed up at Montreux, too late for the tourist office. I then spent a fair while wandering around looking for the youth hostel. The views were pretty cool though. Montreux is a nice romantic kind of place. The buildings are mainly stylish and Lake Geneva makes it very picturesque. It feels more frenchy here, even though I haven't been to France. The people even seem less friendly.

I took a picture of this statue... and started thinking it looked like Freddy Mercury... and sure enough it was. Right down by the waterfront. Apparently he used to hang out in Montreux a lot.

After walking all day, mainly with a backpack on, I was glad to get to bed.
