Interlaken Inspires Funny Idea – St Patricks Flight (Interlaken)

13/3/05 Sunday

Decided to check into the other popular backpackers in Interlaken called the Funny Farm. The Lonely Planet says Australians are meant to flock there. I got a room with a bunch of Californians that were studying in Florence and on their spring break. They were cool.

I had seen an Irish pub in Lucerne advertising St Patrick's Day. I checked out when that was and it is the 17th. I checked out the Internet and found I could get a cheap flight from Geneva to Dublin. There also still seemed to be some accommodation available... so now I'm booked to fly to Dublin on the 16th. Pity I didn't pick up on that one earlier. The festivities for St Patrick's Day run the week leading up to the 17th, but at least I'll be there for the main day.

I then went up to Lauterbrunnen and onto Gimmelwald. The Lonely Planet says this is the best kept secret in Switzerland. I reckon it looks pretty much like the rest of it. It was nice enough, but I wouldn't have gone again. I did get some awesome home made yoghurt from on of the shops. I missed out on going to Schilthorn, which is an expensive cable car ride up to a restaurant. There is a 360 degree viewing platform up there where you are meant to be able to see the black forest on a good day. It was a good day, but I should have taken more notice of the timetable.

Went back to the hostel and ended up watching half the movie Heat with the other guys.
